Investment accelerates our mission to transform carbon emissions into sustainable aviation fuel using renewable energy.
Twelve has marked a significant milestone in our journey toward decarbonizing air travel. We're thrilled to announce that United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund has made a strategic investment in Twelve, adding momentum to our mission of transforming CO2 into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using our proprietary carbon transformation technology.
This investment comes at a pivotal moment for Twelve. As part of our recent $85 million Series C funding round, we're poised to launch our first SAF production facility, AirPlant™ One, in Moses Lake, Washington. Expected to begin operations in the coming year, the facility will produce approximately 50,000 gallons of SAF annually—representing a crucial first step in scaling our E-Jet® SAF technology to meet the aviation industry's growing demand for sustainable fuels.
Twelve's breakthrough technology harnesses renewable electricity to power an industrial process similar to photosynthesis, combining captured CO2 and water to create the building blocks for sustainable fuels. This innovative approach has the potential to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional jet fuel, offering a genuine path toward carbon-neutral aviation.
Unlike traditional fuels derived from fossil sources, our E-Jet® SAF is produced using three abundant resources: carbon dioxide captured from the air, water and renewable electricity. The result is a drop-in sustainable aviation fuel that meets all performance requirements while dramatically reducing carbon emissions.
We’re proud that our approach has gained significant traction across the aviation industry. Last year, we secured one of the largest SAF purchase agreements to date with International Aviation Group (IAG), parent company of British Airways—a 14-year contract to supply 260 million gallons of SAF across their five airlines. This long-term commitment demonstrates the growing confidence in our technology's ability to deliver at commercial scale.
This investment from United further validates our approach and provides additional resources to accelerate our growth as we move from innovation to implementation. We're proud to join the Sustainable Flight Fund’s portfolio of companies working to overcome the significant hurdles facing sustainable aviation.
As we prepare to bring AirPlant One online, we're already planning the next phase of our growth. The aviation industry requires billions of gallons of jet fuel annually, and meeting even a fraction of this demand with sustainable alternatives will require rapid scaling of production capacity.
With the support of United Airlines Ventures and our other strategic partners, we're committed to expanding our production capabilities to help meet the industry's ambitious climate goals. By transforming CO2 into fuel, we're creating a circular carbon economy that enables lower-carbon air travel without compromising performance or safety.
