Twelve brings together team members from many backgrounds in our shared mission of tackling the climate crisis through carbon transformation. As a part of our Be the Element of Change series, we asked Maisie Luce (she/her), Director of IT, about her experiences in the cleantech industry and what led her to build a climate-positive career at Twelve.
What is your title? What do you do at Twelve?
As the Director of IT, I lead a team that finds and implements sustainable, scalable solutions to support cross-functional teams and drive our enterprise data strategy. My passion lies in the process of replacing outdated or unnecessary business practices with cutting-edge technological solutions, which not only caters to our current needs but also the future success of Twelve. For instance, we’ve automated certain procurement and inventory procedures, which allows our scientists to spend their time and headspace on what they do best — improving and scaling carbon transformation technology rather than ordering and tracking supplies.
What about Twelve’s work is important or meaningful to you?
The drastic consequences of poor environmental decisions over the years have been felt first hand in the rural working farm I grew up on. These changes have encouraged my children to start asking questions about issues like wildfires and climate change, compelling me to work towards minimizing the impact on their lives and the world they will inherit. I felt a deep commitment to ensure a better future for them and their generation.
Twelve’s carbon transformation technology uses carbon dioxide to create fossil-free products for industries that are notoriously reliant on fossil fuels. For instance, our E-Jet® and E-Marine™ fuels empower cleaner air and ocean travel. Working for Twelve lets me be part of leaving a better world to my children — one with less pollution and fewer emissions, run on air instead of oil.

What is your favorite thing about working at Twelve?
The people I work with at Twelve. Something beautiful happens when you bring together a group of people with a shared passion for making a positive impact. We’re all aware that no one area of Twelve could be successful alone, which is what makes our diverse team so inspiring to work with. Depending on one another to bring our best every day fosters a truly collaborative culture.
Can you share a 1-minute version of your professional story?
I’ve always been passionate about making a tangible, equitable impact on the world. My career has taken me across borders and industries, from working for the Foreign Government Office in Japan to leading a campaign to help end child hunger for food manufacturing company Conagra. By the time I became interested in climate solutions, I’d worked at Conagra for over a decade in a variety of roles: from finance, to supply chain, to IT.
As I felt the pull to work in climate change, I worried that my lack of a scientific background might hinder me — but I soon realized that my skills in IT and operations could be just as impactful in a company like Twelve. Taking the plunge into climate tech and joining Twelve was a leap of faith, and I’m so glad I did it.
