  • How is carbon transformation different from carbon capture and utilization?
Carbon capture is the process of concentrating COâ‚‚ from a more dilute source, whether from the air or from industrial emissions. Once the COâ‚‚ has been captured, what do you do with it? CO2 storage is the process of injecting captured COâ‚‚ underground. This eliminates emissions but does not derive any value from the COâ‚‚. Carbon utilization and carbon transformation, on the other hand, both create value from the COâ‚‚. Carbon utilization generally refers to processes that use the COâ‚‚ but don't change it's structure. The most common example of carbon utilization is enhanced oil recovery (EOR). In this process, COâ‚‚ is injected into oil well to produce more oil. The benefit is that the COâ‚‚ stays locked into the well, and value is generated from the additional oil production. Enhanced oil recovery merits some incentive, as the oil produced by this process does indeed have a lower carbon footprint than conventional, but it is still perpetuating the extraction of new fossil fuels from the ground and is geographically constrained, as COâ‚‚ must be piped to oil fields. Carbon transformation is the process of converting captured COâ‚‚ into new products. It is the most sustainable solution because it eliminates emissions and prevent the extraction of new carbon from the ground. Carbon transformation eliminates fossil fuels while producing the goods that drive our global economy, and can be implemented at any source of carbon emissions, which distributes job creation throughout the country and across industries.
  • What is carbon transformation for brands?
Carbon transformation is the process by which our technology converts COâ‚‚ into critical chemicals, materials and fuels that today are made from fossil fuels. Carbon transformation for brands means we replace the petrochemicals in their products and supply chains with our CO2Made chemicals, materials and fuels. Doing this immediately eliminates, rather than offsets, emissions in a direct and permanent way.
  • What is CO2Made®?
CO2Made® is a new category of products made from CO₂ instead of petrochemicals. We think of it as products made from air, not oil. When a product is CO2Made® it means zero fossil fuels, zero emissions and zero trade-offs in performance, safety and efficacy. Learn more about CO2Made® from this video in our film series, The Carbon Transformation Company.
  • Why switch to CO2Made®?
Switching to CO2Made® directly and permanently reduces the emissions of thousands of products. If products made from petrochemicals were replaced with CO2Made®, we could reverse the industrial flow of carbon, eliminating 10% of global emissions, and up to 50% of industrial emissions. CO2Made® materials are are carbon negative, and CO2Made® fuels, like our jet fuel E-Jet®, are carbon neutral. CO2Made products are chemically identical to traditional products, so there is no compromise when it comes to performance, efficacy or safety.
  • How does Twelve's carbon transformation technology work?
Our technology works like industrial photosynthesis. Just as plants use CO₂, water and the sun’s energy to create carbon-based products, our technology converts CO₂ emissions into critical chemicals and fuels with just water and renewable energy as inputs. Our core invention combines a new breed of catalyst with a novel device that reprograms existing systems to split CO₂, which means we seamlessly integrate into existing industrial systems and supply chains.
